AN inspirational Oldham nurse who launched a year-long fundraising campaign when she was diagnosed with breast cancer has smashed her target.
Helen Haigh was diagnosed in June 2014 and has since given her all to raise money for the Link4Pink charity, which supports the Victoria Breast Care Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital. She started the campaign with fellow sufferer Helen Pedroza.
A year on, Helen has been successfully treated and the campaign has raised more than £13,000 - even thogh the pair at first were aiming for £500.
To mark the end of the fundraising campaign, Helen teamed up with Dr Kershaw’s Hospice to put on a charity dinner, dance and fashion show with a unique twist - the Uppermill Civic Hall event featured all model who had been affected by cancer.
After such success neither woman fails able to stop their effort. Helen confirmed: “It can’t simply stop here for us. We have done too much to walk away. I’ll be staying on as chair and we will be holding more events and spreading more awareness.”
