New chairman aims to revive animal charity

A WELL-KNOWN local animal charity has had a completely fresh start to give it a new lease of life.
A new committee has taken over Pike View in Yorkshire Street, which rehouses unwanted cats and dogs. The group’s first act was to rename the charity Animal Rescue Oldham.
The charity’s shop sells bric-a-brac, furniture and other unwanted items donated by members of the public.
The money raised is used to care for abandoned dogs and cats. New chairman Rod Smith was involved with Pike View when it was established 25 years ago before leaving due to work commitments 14 years ago.
When he heard that the entire committee was stepping down and the charity was in danger of folding, he set about recruiting new members.
“We have a new committee and a new name, so we can have a fresh start,” he said. “We are currently looking for new premises and are desperate for donations of dog and cat food to help people when they adopt one of our animals.”
