THE organisers of the Oldham Business Awards have presented cheques to two Oldham charities.

The awards steering group has donated cash to Oldham’s Mahdlo youth zone and Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, Royton.

Steve Kilroy, from BAE Systems, the steering group chairman, was joined by group colleagues Louise Slater, Kashif Ashraf and Adam Husband to present the cheques.

Mahdlo received a cheque for £3,000 and was represented by youngsters Mackenzie Kielty and Natasha Flanagan. The two girls performed at the business awards ceremony held in Oldham’s Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Claire Crossfield, from Mahdlo, said: “We are all incredibly grateful for the way that the Oldham Business Awards has supported Mahdlo over the years, not only with financial support but the opportunities that our young people have been presented with through performances on the night and ‘networking’ with guests.

“As a charity we need to raise substantial funds from local people and businesses. Any donation, whatever the size, attending our fundraising events or gifts in kind, can make a huge impact to our work with young people. I urge everyone to get involved.”

A cheque for £750 was presented to Dr Kershaw’s, represented by Angela Higham.

She said: “Dr Kershaw’s Hospice have been working with the One Oldham Business awards for quite a few years. The support and generosity the hospice received from businesses never fails to amaze me.

“We are delighted with this donation which will help those people in Oldham who are living with life-shortening illnesses.”
