RUN TO IT: Oldham sports awards this Friday
EVERYTHING great about sport in the borough is celebrated at a sparkling ceremony on Friday tonight.
The Oldham Sports Awards 2015 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall will hail local sportsmen and women, volunteers, coaches and unsung heroes. The event is organised by the Oldham Sports Development team with support from the Oldham Business Leadership Group and Oldham Evening Chronicle.
Awards will be presented in eight categories: Contribution to School Sport, Disabled Sports Achiever, Sports Volunteer, Sports Achiever, Coach of the Year, Young Sports Volunteer, Club of the Year and Unsung hero/special recognition.
From the hundreds of nominations, an independent judging panel came up with three finalists in each category.
Guest speaker will be former Manchester United and England captain Bryan Robson OBE, and Oldham’s Olympic bronze medal hockey player, Nicola White will present the event alongside Mike Shaft of BBC Radio Manchester.
Four other athletes with high hopes of making the Great Britain team for next year’s Olympic Games will be attendance: swimmer Jessica Fullalove and boxers John Newell, Will Cawley and Daniel Wright.
Awaiting most of the winners is a place at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards, held later the year.
