A FUNDRAISING netball rally ended with a magnificent result — £800 for two charities.

Cyra Sykes (35), from Chadderton, organised Mia’s Netball Rally in memory of her daughter Mia, who was stillborn at the Royal Oldham Hospital in August last year.

A total of eight teams with a mix of players and abilities took part in the competition at Newbridge School, Hollinwood.

After a number of hard-fought heats, the winning team was Phoenix, who edged out runners-up The Misfits.

Coupled with a fundraising bake sale and raffle, a total of £800 was raised for two charities that are close to Cyra’s heart — 4Louis, which provides memory boxes for bereaved parents, and the Count The Kicks campaign. which raises awareness of neo-natal movement.

The rally proved such as success that Cyra plans on running it every year on her daughter’s birthday.

Cyra, who thanked her friends and family for their support, said: “It feels great to have actually done the event although it was extremely tiring especially on the day.

“A lot of people said they loved it so I am thinking about making it a yearly thing but maybe focusing more on the novice side of netball, entering teams that haven’t played before and including more men.

“I learnt a lot this year so hopefully next year will be even better.

“And it will be a wonderful way to remember my little angel Mia so I will try each year to hold it on her birthday.”
