Much moor than a fun run for Gary

TACKLING dementia doesn’t need to be an uphill battle — unless you’re taking on the Milltown to Moors 7k this weekend to raise awareness of the disease.

Gary Flanagan, programme leader for dementia for the local NHS will take on the challenge on Sunday in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The 33 year old from High Crompton is hoping his effort on the rural course will both raise money for the charity and serve as a tribute to everyone working to raise awareness of the condition. Oldham CCG, Oldham Council, the Alzheimer’s Society and local businesses including the Chronicle, are all promoting the help and services available in the area.

They have also been championing the Dementia Friends campaign in the borough in which members of the community learn more about the condition and what they can do to help those with dementia live well.

Despite being a regular runner, Gary is expecting to find the course difficult, since it is rather hilly. Even so he is expecting the finish in around 35 minutes and will raise £100.

The run is one of several activities in Oldham as part of Oldham Dementia Awareness Month, which runs to June 8.
