TRIBUTES have been paid to a young motorist who died in a car accident in Denshaw.

Sam Guiney (24), of Moorside, was driving his white BMW on Ripponden Road towards the M62 when he lost control on a bend, hit the safety barrier and crashed into a wall, flipping on to its roof.

Passers-by found the car and found Sam unconscious inside. Emergency services arrived and cut the former Counthill School pupil out. He was rushed to the Royal Oldham Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Social media has been flooded with messages of support for the family ever since the accident. In one poignant exchange, Sam’ heartbroken father, Jim Guiney, told Sam’s girl friend Daisy Connell she had made his “beautiful son” happy: “He thought the world of you — he told me all the time,” he said.

Daisy replied: “Thank you for bringing him in to the world.”

Sergeant Mark Thomas, from the GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit, has launched an appeal to the public for information.

He said: “We’re not quite sure what happened that made this young man lose control, but we are keen to find out.” Anyone with information can contact police on 0161-856 4741.

Jack Adams said: “RIP Sam Guiney. One of the nicest lads I’ve ever met, top bloke.”
