THE site of the new Saddleworth School will be the main priority for Councillor Graham Sheldon, who held his seat in Saddleworth South.

The Conservative councillor won with 2,489 votes, with Lib-Dem Alan Belmore second. Councillor Sheldon a majority of 995. The party came second in Alexandra, Chadderton North and Saddleworth North.

Mr Sheldon has been a councillor for Saddleworth South for four years and a parish councillor for 12 years. He is also sub-postmaster at Uppermill Post Office.

Mr Sheldon said: “I hope to continue to work for the people of Saddleworth South and Saddleworth in general.

“The whole Saddleworth School issues brought people out in Uppermill. I feel the move to Diggle is the wrong move — the right place is Uppermill. We will continue to voice that.”

Councillor Sheldon’s other priorities are to improve disability access at Greenfield train station and to work with local groups to get more allotments in Uppermill.
