A determined mother who lost one of her twin sons to skin cancer is set on raising £33,000 in his memory.
Jennifer Greenwood is hosting a Sixties-themed evening to mark what would have been her boy’s 40th birthday. So far her efforts have given more than £24,000 to Malignant Melanoma Research at The Christie.
Mrs Greenwood, from Lydgate, says in 2008 when her son, Gareth, was found to have MM there was no cure but surgery.
“Tragically, that didn’t work in Gareth’s case,” she said. “Now, through money people have helped me and many others raise, plus the skill and determination of the team at The Christie, there are drugs available that are definitely saving lives.
“The concert provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the need to avoid sunbeds and wear a high-factor sun cream.”
Since her son’s death she has been supported by Gareth’s father Gordon, Gareth’s twin brother Philip and many friends and family members, in high profile events for Gareth’s Tribute Fund.
Jennifer said: “All the money is making a positive difference and helping people to make a recovery from this dreadful illness.”
Meanwhile, Mrs Greenwood is selling tickets, priced £10 each, for The Threetles, a Beatles tribute act, at the White Hart, Lydgate, on Thursday.
Tickets: Mrs Greenwood on 01457 -877 935. Gareth’s Tribute Fund: www.hopefunds.christies.orgfunds/garethgreenwood.
