Infant Trophy winners: Higher Failsworth Primary Years 1&2
THERE were trophies galore for youngsters in fine voice at Oldham’s 31st Choral Speaking Festival.
Pupils from across the borough took to the stage in chorus to perform poetry and prose, and a special awards ceremony at the Oldham Coliseum saw prizes handed to the winning schools.
Adjudicator Ann Warr said: “The festival continues to be a real bonus for Oldham and its schools. My congratulations go to all the children who took part and my thanks go to all the teachers and parents who helped to bring out their very best.”
The Infant Trophy was jointly won by Higher Failsworth Primary’s Year 2 and Year 1 classes. Glodwick Infant and Nursery won a special commendation.
The Lower Junior Trophy was won by Freehold Community School’s Year 3 class with special commendation for St Hugh’s Primary School Year 4 class.
The Madeleine Lindley Trophy was won by St Agnes CE Primary with Freehold Community School’s Year 2 class earning a special commendation.
The Upper Junior Trophy was won by St Mary’s CE Greenfield’s Year 5 class.
Christ Church CE School, Chadderton’s, Years 4, 5 and 6 classes won the John Cleary Trophy with a special commendation going to St Mary’s CE Greenfield’s Year 3 class.
Bare Trees Primary, Chadderton, won the Audrey Carter Trophy.
The awards were presented by the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Fida Hussain, Rachelle Lindley from Madeleine Lindley Books, Kevin Shaw, chief executive at the Coliseum, Linda Davies from Focus Education, John Clearly, who created the festival 31 years ago, adjudicator Ann Warr and John Walkden, president of the Oldham Metro Rotary Club.
