Lucas Vince is doing a sponsored cycle ride in tribute to his ice-hockey mentor
SPORTY Royton lad Lucas Vince is gearing up for a charity bike ride — a 36 mile trek to Blackburn.
The 10-year-old pupil at Mills Hill Primary School in Chadderton will set off from Roy Street, Royton, on Saturday morning for the three and a half hour, non-stop ride.
Kind-hearted Lucas has raised £490 by asking people at the ice arena and his neighbours to sponsor him. Half the money will go towards both his ice hockey teams — Blackburn Junior Hawks under-12s and under-14s.
The other half will go towards a memorial garden in Blackburn for Alan Amos, Lucas’ former ice hockey coach, who died suddenly of cancer in January. Alan first inspired Lucas to start playing ice hockey three years ago.
Lucas will ride alongside his father, David Vince (33), who coaches the under-12s team, grandfather Martin Vince and two of their friends from Blackburn Ice Arena.
