DEMENTIA will be at the top of the agenda in Oldham this month as a series of helpful, supportive and fun events aim to raise awareness of the condition.
Oldham Dementia Action Alliance, which is made up of more than 30 local organisations and businesses, including Oldham Council, NHS Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and the Alzheimer’s Society, will be hosting events focusing on dementia.
Around 30 free events will take place from May 15-June 8, with activities and sessions designed to promote greater understanding of the condition, showcase the services available within the borough and explain how living a healthy lifestyle can help to prevent dementia. The events will be open to everyone.
The month follows the borough’s sself-imposed challenge to create 500 “Dementia Friends” by last Christmas. The campaign, supported by the Chronicle managed to sign up 2,592 friends.
Alan Higgins, Director of Public Health for Oldham, said: “People living with dementia can face challenges with everyday life, but with a little help and support can continue to live well and enjoy life for many years. It’s vital we spread the word.”
