Nicola Hughes: race in her honour
RUNNERS are being invited to take to the streets in a memorial race for Diggle PC Nicola Hughes.
PC Hughes was lured to her death in a horrifying gun and grenade attack at the hands of Dale Cregan in September, 2012, in Tameside along with her colleague PC Fiona Bone.
She will be remembered when the iconic Tour of Tameside returns this June.
The ultimate three-day running challenge is returning after an absence of more than a decade.
The first event is on Friday, June 19, with a six-mile fell race at Copley Leisure Centre in Stalybridge.
The High Peak Half Marathon run along the Longendale trail will take place the following day before the weekend event draws to a close on Father’s Day with a seven-mile race through Hyde.
Chris Bird, chief executive of Sports Tours International, said: “We have dedicated one of the races to PC Nicola Hughes. Anyone running the High Peak Half Marathon will have the additional option of a short run prior to the half marathon which will be known as the Memorial round. The additional £5 goes to the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.”
