Oldham Council have said children and parents should be "vigilant" with the regulations surrounding Covid-19.
The comments come after an Oldham headteacher wrote to parents warning them that their child is at risk from being withdrawn from school if Covid rules are not being followed at home.
In the letter, Martine Buckley, Executive Headteacher at Yew Tree Community School in Chadderton said "Currently a number of [the children] are telling us that they are visiting friends, neighbours and family which is against the law. Our teachers and support staff are putting their own safety at risk to look after your children and they should be confident that you are doing your bit to follow the lockdown rules"
Oldham Council reiterated the importance of following the rules, particularly with regards to schools
A spokesperson said: “We are working with all Oldham Schools to reaffirm messaging that people who should be self-isolating should not come into school.
"It is crucially important that children and their parents or carers do not mix households or support bubbles outside of school and that they remain vigilant to the ongoing threat to others posed by covid-19.
"We therefore encourage children and their families to continue to adhere to public health guidance to help us control the virus and support the efforts to reduce transmission in communities, including in schools.
"We’d like to thank all school leaders and the staff involved in keeping our schools open for vulnerable pupils and children of key workers."
