£3,000 charity boost

GOLF:
CROMPTON and Royton’s lady-captain’s charity day was organised by the Scroungers Golf Society and raised over £3,000, which went a long way towards the cost of an electric wheelchair.
The team event was won by Madge Millett, vice-captain Barry McCloughlin, Dave Harris and Alan Daubney with 82 Stableford points.
They won a card play-off against Audrey Whittaker, captain Gordon Lamb, Ian Whittaker and Andrew Bottomley. In third place, a point behind, were Oldham lady-captain Chris Peirson, Jordan Flint, Steve Mills and Dave Edgerton.
WERNETH’S Mr Captain’s prize, a medal competition and Bunty Booth qualifier, was won by Christine Moon with a return of 100-28-72.
First division sweep went to Brenda Martin (101-23-78), with Sheila Antrobus (98-19-79) taking the second sweep.
Second division first sweep was won by Gail Rowbotham (105-32-73), while Vivien Leaver took the second sweep with 105-31-74. Brenda Martin was the Bunty Booth qualifier.
JULIE Ward shot rounds of 72 and 71 for a 143 total and victory in Saddleworth’s Mr President’s Trophy. Runner-up was Denise Brown (69+76=145), while the first-day prize went to Linda Kenworthy (101-29-72) and second-day honours to Jean Dervan (95-22-73).
Janice Nicholson won a five-club Stableford at the course with a total of 34 points. Runner-up was Sue Booth, who won a card play-off against Christine Bulmer after both scored 31 points.
