Springhead swoop into second spot

FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD are up to second place in the FBT Manchester League Premier Division table thanks to two impressive results.
’Head picked up a fine point courtesy of a goalless draw at Prestwich Heys on Saturday, before following up with a 2-1 home win against Dukinfield Town in midweek. Kion Pryce and Nathan Eastmond scored for the hosts, who came from a goal behind.
Royton Town are close behind after also picking up four points from two fixtures. A 4-0 home triumph against Dukinfield was followed by a 2-2 stalemate at Prestwich.
Uppermill drew 2-2 at home against Walshaw Sports on Saturday. On target were Joe Jacobs and Bobby Fulham. They were on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline at Avro on Tuesday.
The hosts bounced back from the weekend’s 6-4 reverse at the hands of Rochdale Sacred Heart.
In Division One, Chadderton’s reserves enjoyed their derby day as they thumped Hollinwood 5-1 at Andrew Street. Providing the firepower were Matt Booth (two), Adam Sweeney (two) and Leon Iloube.
Uppermill’s seconds went down 2-1 at home to Old Alts in Division Three.
Luke Brierley grabbed the consolation goal.
THERE was a positive start to the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division campaign for both our local clubs.
Failsworth Dynamos kicked off with a 3-2 win at Howe Bridge Mills, while Chaddertonians triumphed
3-1 at near neighbours Mostonians.
In midweek, Dynamos secured a satisfactory 1-1 draw at Mostonians. But Chadds slipped to a 3-0 home reverse at the hands of Old Mancunians.
Oldham Hulmeians have enjoyed a super start to their Division One campaign, winning back-to-back games. They beat Hesketh Casuals 4-1 at home, then prevalied 4-2 at Prestwich in midweek.
DIGGLE got their Huddersfield League top-flight campaign off to a terrific start with a 3-0 victory at Holmbridge.
Newly-promoted Heyside went down 2-1 at Berry Brow. James Leonard scored for Heyside from the penalty spot.
In Division Three, Moorside triumphed 4-2 at Wooldale Wanderers, but Uppermill crashed 5-1 to visiting Slaithwaite United.
There was a superb opening day win for 3D Dynamos in Division Four. They roared to a 10-0 victory at stunned Cartworth Moor.
