Oldham Golf Club pro Andy Earlam
GOLF: NEW Oldham Golf Club professional Andy Earlam can hardly believe his luck.
Having packed in his previous profession as a joiner to concentrate full time on golf, Earlam successfully completed his four-year PGA qualification course at Birmingham University.
An interview at Oldham followed, and while Earlam was on holiday, he heard he had won the job.
“It has all just fallen into place,” said the 28 year old. He succeeds Jimmy Lister, who has taken up the professional’s post at Marple.
Earlam, from Stalybridge, started playing golf at Stamford when he was 10 and reduced his handicap before becoming assistant professional to Mark Smith four years ago.
Said Smith: “His determination, application and attitude have been inspirational. Andy has been a credit to Stamford Golf Club and he will be very difficult to replace.”
Now a fully-qualified professional in his own right, Earlam is looking forward to making his mark at Oldham.
He said: “I have a business plan designed to revive Oldham’s income and membership, and will conduct lessons and also provide a fully-stocked pro’s shop.”
