HEYSIDE produced one of their best displays of the Lake Garage CLL Championship season with a 42-run victory at second-placed Middleton.
Jon Selby and Mark Goddard both scored 35 as Heyside made 181 for eight. And spinner Danny Cashin was Heyside's destroyer with the ball as the hosts were dismissed for 139.
Cashin took six for 36 from 23 superb overs as Middleton capitulated. Their defeat gave Crompton the chance to clinch the title yesterday. Carl Newton gave Cashin great support with three for 52.
Crompton's march to the Championship crown continued with a 10-wicket demolition of Oldham at Glebe Street.
Skipper Simon Wright took six for 30 and Mel Whittle four for 16 as the visitors were skittled for 46.
Opening batsmen Josh Tolley (17) and Andrew Yates (23) needed just 10.2 overs to rack up the runs Crompton needed to secure maximum points.
Royton's woes in the Premier Division continued as they lost by eight wickets at Heywood.
Kate Cross took a break from her England Ashes duties to collect four for 29 as Royton succumbed to 85 all out. Heywood reached their target for the loss of two wickets.
