BATSMAN in the Lake Garage CLL found it tough going on Saturday as damp pitches and drying conditions made wickets bowler-friendly.
Oldham were skittled by Milnrow for only 40 at the Pollards, while Heyside succumbed for just 65 at the hands of Middleton at Little Hey Street.
Championship runners-up elect Middleton were put in by Oldham and made 155, George Walker top scoring with 47. Hamza Hussain continued his good bowling form with four for 58.
Oldham’s reply lasted a meagre 15.4 overs as Middleton pro Ernest Kemm (five for 32) and Gareth Hughes (four for 26) wreaked havoc.
Heyside survived just 16.2 overs at home to Milnrow as Brandon Diplock (five for 32) and Aaron Brown (five for 33) strutted their stuff. Nick Campbell (37) was the only batsman to reach double figures.
Milnrow raced to their target without loss, rampant professional James Price reaching 1,000 runs for the season with 54 not out off only 29 balls, including seven fours and three sixes.
Champions-in-waiting Crompton (142 for eight) rather limped to victory at Ashton (139), but Werneth (149) lost by 20 runs at home to Radcliffe (169).
In the Premier Division, Royton’s poor run continued when they lost by a single wicket at home to Unsworth. Chris Williams took six for 28 as Royton were bowled out for 104, and the visitors staggered across the winning line for the loss of nine wickets, paid man Williams completing a superb all-round display with an unbeaten 35.
