Tonge on brink of Premier success
Date published: 31 July 2015
BOWLS: TONGE have one hand on the Manchester Premier League trophy after beating close rivals and reigning champions, the Lloyd Hotel, Chorlton, at home.
Tonge had five winners and the aggregate for an 8-7.5 (186-174) victory and are so far clear of the chasing pack that only a collapse of monumental proportions can deny them the title.
Tonge winners against Lloyd were Jimmy Derby (21-16), Matt Gillies (21-11), Darren Griffiths (21-11), Gary Ellis (21-19) and Thomas Dobson (21-12).
Tonge’s next fixture is at Sale XL on Wednesday (7.30pm).
ENTRIES are being accepted for the Jack Taylor Trophy women’s singles at Norden BC. Heats are on September 1, 3, 8 and 10 (7pm), with the finals on Saturday, September 12 (4pm). Information from Jean Beaumont on 0797 4412217 or 01706 527219.
The Thwaites men’s pairs and AC Ventilation women’s pairs continue on Sunday (5.30pm) and there is a vacancy in the latter. Details: 0776 7674699.
