RUGBY: LOSING to promotion-chasing Thornhill Trojans was no disgrace for Waterhead Warriors in Kingstone Press National Conference League Division Three.
Chasing a third straight victory, Dave Orwell’s side shipped 56 points against the second-placed team at Peach Road.
Tomorrow’s hosts Wibsey Warriors are at the other end of the spectrum. Like Waterhead, the Bradford outfit is battling to avoid a bottom-three finish. There will be no quarter given as the both sides aim to climb the league ladder.
Orwell had to call on a clutch of teenagers for last weekend’s clash. It was a tough assignment for the young pups, but they never let their heads drop against free-scoring opponents.
Wibsey had it tough as well on the same afternoon, losing 66-0 at Hunslet Club Parkside.
Three wins on the spin in NCL Division One is the target of SADDLEWORTH RANGERS, who hit the road to Wigan St Judes. Confidence is high after beating Ince Rose Bridge and Salford City Roosters, and for coach Craig Farrimond it is all about keeping a positive mindset.
Rangers had lost all 13 league games before overcoming Ince, while they trailed by 16 points in the first half against Roosters.
“We kept plugging way,” said Farrimond of their recent comeback display. “A couple of decisions went against us, but we didn’t let them get us down and valiantly stuck to our game plan.”
OLDHAM St Anne’s have a great chance of making-up ground on one of their relegation rivals tomorrow.
Saints, who ran mid-table Askam close after a two-week break, welcome Bradford Dudley Hill to Higginshaw Lane.
The visitors are six points ahead of Mick Worrall’s men in NCL Division Two, but have played a game more. A reproduction of the Askam performance, without losing three players to infringements late on, could be good enough for Saints to claim a much-needed second league success of the season.
All matches kick off at 2.30pm.
