Tom’s turn at top of the table
Date published: 17 July 2015
TOM Maddock turned the tables on his club-mate Steve Boyle as he landed the prestigious club championship at Brookdale.
A year ago, Boyle beat Maddock by five shots to win the 36-hole competition, and this time round he looked set for a third title in a row when he led his rival by two shots after the first round.
But Maddock, who attends the Myerscough College which also produced recent District Championship winner Matty Kay, would not be denied.
Playing superbly in the second round, he outgunned Boyle by three shots to win the event by a single stroke.
His final total of 138 was a superb return for a scratch competition, while Boyle can feel proud of his total of 139.
Peter Buckley was third on 143.
The championship subsidiary prize was won by Phil Brownlow, who won a card play-off after his 40 Stableford points tied those of runner-up Jeff Stansfield. John Hughes (37, CPO) was third.
Neil Trolan (68-8-60) had the best nett score in round one, while round two honours went to Brad keeling (74-7-67).
The 36-hole nett prize was won by Garry Smith with a return of 76=80-18=138.
