Angling: CHADDERTON matchman John Jones (Garbolino Elton) hit the magic century mark in securing victory in the Tuesday Partridge Fishery open on the Covey Canal lakes.
Drawn on canal six, Jones used pellet over groundbait at just three metres to catch 110lb 2oz of carp and f1s. Steve Openshaw (Lingmere) was next with a 98lb 14oz net, also made up of f1s and carp
BOB Harrison topped the latest of the Medlock Bridge AC Saturday open matches on the Park Lake.
Using maggot at six metres, he tempted small roach, two big tench and a few f1s for a 21lb 12oz bag.
Pete Cuniffe opted for his usual hemp and caster approach for f1s, tench, chub and roach in a second-best 14lb 12oz bag.
Torrential rain dampened spirits and weights in the Medlock Bridge AC Monday open match on the Park Lake. Phil Hulme required just 11lb 7oz of f1s and skimmers pole and pellet for victory. Cuniffe, using identical tactics to Saturday, again claimed second place with a 10lb 15oz catch which included small tench, roach and two f1s.
TWO carp and plenty of silvers made up the winning weight in Tuesday’s Diggle AC match on Tanners Dam with Wally Butler’s 15lb 15oz bagging victory on pole and meat. The previous week’s winner, Martin Taylor (Matrix Halifax), was second with an all silvers net of 11lb on the short and long pole with maggot.
PHIL Cliffe took first place in Tuesday’s Old Hough farm open on Big Max — but it was a late call.
About to pack up, he had one last drop in on the nearside margins and caught a superb carp.
He then put another seven into his net to the two carp he had already for a match-winning 34lb 10oz.
Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield), who does well at this venue, was second with 33lb 7oz of f1s and small carp which fell to method feeder, micros and corn tight to an island.
THE latest Old Hough Farm open on Upper Benbo lake saw Paul Wright record another big weigh at the fishery, with his 83lb 5oz catch made up of f1s and carp on paste and corn tight over.
PETE Mottram is bang in form — and he led the way in yet another Todmorden AS match with victory on Croft. Using chopped worm and caster up and down in the water, he caught plenty of silvers and ide for 45lb.
