Chadwick’s A-game

SHIELD SUCCESS . . . the Glodwick ‘A’ team of Richard Connolly (manager, back row, left), Ben Frost, Ben Brierley, Adam Shazad, Hassan Ahmed, Ash Rigby, Sobhan Mirza, Josh Brown, Neil Williams (coach) Nathan Connolly (front, left), Tommy Jones (capt), James Chadwick, Zak McCannon, Aidan Jump.
CRICKET: GLODWICK ‘A’ beat their ‘B’ team club rivals to lift the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s Leicester Shield at Warren Lane.
The star of the show was James Chadwick, who struck a maiden century for the winners after they had elected to bat first.
The openers made steady progress, adding 50 before Adam Shazad departed lbw to Jack Green for 24.
Josh Brown then joined Chadwick, and the pair had put on hundred when rain intervened with the score on 171 for one after 31 overs. Chadwick was four runs short of his ton - which he completed before retiring when play resumed 90 minutes later. Glodwick ‘A’ completed their 40 overs on a commanding 221 for six.
The ‘B’ team’s reply never really got going. Jump began their downfall with excellent figures of two for six from his five accurate overs. A wicket for Soaban Mirza and a run out followed before Nathan Connolly tore apart the middle order, bagging five for eight.
Glodwick ‘B’ were dismissed for 38, with Hassan Ahmed removing his younger brother Salman to clinch victory.
