GLODWICK and Uppermill booked their tickets for round two of the LCB Cup — but fellow Saddleworth and District League sides Saddleworth and Stayley were shown the exit door.

Half-centuries from Shahid Mahmood (60 not out) and professional Rehan Rafiq (56) saw Glodwick clinch a terrific six-wicket victory at leading Bolton League outfit Westhoughton.

Brad Heap (30 not out) struck the winning runs in style, a six with three overs to spare, to overtake the hosts’ total of 210 for five.

Uppermill secured their first success of 2015 by defeating East Lancs PM, of the North Manchester League, at Leefields.

The home side were in a spot of bother at 71 for six, but 92 priceless runs from James Chamberlain lifted the score to a useful 232 for nine. He shared in key seventh and eighth-wicket stands of 68 and 67 alongside Martin Salmon and Jonathan Lees respectively.

Andy Jones took five for 40 in East Lancs’ reply of 167 all out.

Saddleworth were dismissed for a disappointing 139 against Denton West at Well-i-Hole, leaving the Lancashire County League team to coast home by six wickets.

Bowled out for 117, Stayley suffered a nine-wicket loss at Bootle (Liverpool Competition).
