Ace Henshaw has spring in his step

GOLF: TONY Henshaw claimed his first major triumph with victory in Brookdale’s first major of the season.
He lifted the Spring Cup with two fine rounds at the Medlock Road club - a net 68 for the opening 18, followed by a 67 for a 163-28-135 total. Steve Barlow was the runner-up (156-20-136).
The best gross score over the two round was registered by two-handicapper Mark Riley with 143.
Meanwhile, WERNETH are through to round five of the prestigious Mail on Sunday Golf Classic after a 5-0 home win over namesakes Werneth Low.
The Garden Suburb club made home advantage count over their Dukinfield rivals with wins for Kevin Roberts (1 hole), Michael Farrimond (6&5), Paul Rowbotham (5&3), Adam Rowbotham (4&3) and Lee Rowbotham (4&3). They now face a trip to Bury-based club Stand.
Werneth bowed out of the Manchester Foursomes, losing 5-2 at Helsby with the pairings of club captain John Suttie and Nigel Wareing and John Yemm and Pete Davies their only winners.
Jonathan Jones was the clear winner of CROMPTON and ROYTON’S Seven Cup, a major competition.
He fired a round of 81-14-67 to finish in front of Chris E King (83-13-70), who was runner-up on a card play-off from Matthew Kershaw (77-7-70). The best gross was recorded by Mike Shaw (73-2-71).
In the first round of the Dunham Forest Knock-out, Crompton and Royton beat Nelson 5.5-1.5.
BROOKDALE and Manchester golfer Joe Brice won both of his matches in the opening Daily Telegraph Northern Counties League fixture of the season — but Lancashire could only draw against Yorkshire at Hillside.
He teamed up with John Carroll (Huyton & Prescot) to beat Matthew Evans (Rotherham) and Kealan Lowe (Wheatley) 4&2 in the foursomes. He then overcame Ben Brewster (Bawtry) 3&1 in the singles.
BLACKLEY’S junior team featuring George Beard (captain), Liam Grey, Elliot Morgan, Matthew Atherton, Mason Younge, Josh Dawson and Elliot Tickle, won 5-2 at Dukinfield in the Williams BMW event.
Jordan Whitehouse, of Blackley, finished fourth in the Lancashire Boys’ Championship at Leyland Golf Club. The 17-year-old scored 77 and 72 gross. The winning score was 145.
