CROMPTON’S cracking start to the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League Championship campaign continued with a seven-wicket romp at Radcliffe.
Despite being billed as an ‘acid test’, Simon Wright’s team cruised to victory. Andy Yates took five for 25 as the hosts were skittled for 85. Denis Louis (62 not out) then top-scored as still-unbeaten Crompton crossed the line for only three wickets.
Werneth fell to an 18-run defeat when hosting Elton. The visitors took first knock and scored 187, then despite decent efforts of 54 from Fiaz Khan and 43 from deputy pro Graeme van Buuren, Werneth could only manage 169 all out in their reply.
Heyside were defeated again, this time by 16 runs at Ashton. The visitors to Reyner Lane fell just short, chasing 188 for victory.
In the Premiership, Royton were sunk by Norden pro Dan Salpietro, who starred with bat and ball.
Salpietro took five wickets for just 25 runs as Royton were all out for just 107.
The Aussie ace then raced to 69 not out as Norden replied with 110 for the loss of just a single wicket.
Elsewhere in the top flight, there was a thumping 81-run victory for Rochdale at Clifton, while Unsworth got the better of Littleborough by 51 runs.
Monton and Weaste got the better of Katie Cross’s Heywood by 18 runs.
