Worrall’s reward for Whitehead

RUGBY: AFTER impressing off the bench against Leigh East, Matty Whitehead will be handed a starting spot by Oldham St Anne’s coach Mick Worrall tomorrow.
The young stand-off kicked three goals in the 26-18 victory — Saints’ first in Kingstone Press National Conference League this season.
Whitehead replaces injury victim Kiel Lancashire at Dewsbury Celtic, but Worrall says he is more than up to the task: “Nothing fazed Matty against Leigh — he looked a class act,” said the coach
Worrall is also missing Dane English and Tom McMullen for the trip to Dewsbury, who are a point and one place above Saints.
Worrall is seeking a repeat of the performance that saw his side topple promotion hopefuls Leigh.
He said: “That display has set the standard and I don’t want anything less from now on. We defended well, stuck in there and got our rewards. But there’s still a long way to go.
“It’s a winnable game tomorrow and a chance to move up the table, but nothing is a given and the lads will be reminded of that.”
THE bottom two teams in NCL Division One meet at Shaw Hall Bank Road tomorrow. Only visitors Wigan St Jude’s have a worst record than Saddleworth Rangers, on points difference.
Rangers coach Craig Farrimond was hoping last week’s match at Milford Marlins would end Rangers’ search for a first league win, but instead they returned from Leeds nursing a crushing 36-6 defeat.
WITH next-to-bottom Gateshead Storm entering the gates of Waterhead’s Peach Road ground tomorrow, could this be the game that the Warriors finally break their duck in NCL Division Three?
