KATE Cross made history when she became the first woman to play in a Lake Garage CLL match.
And yesterday she proved her skills emphatically with a match-winning performance against Unsworth at Crimble.
The current England international took eight for 47 from 15.5 overs as Unsworth were dismissed for 121. And on a triumphant day for the Cross family, Kate's brother Bobby top-scored with 63 as Heywood wrapped up a six-wicket win.
That left watching father Dave, the former Athletic striker who won the FA Cup with West Ham 35 years ago to the day, a very proud man.
Royton surrendered their unbeaten record at Monton and Weaste when they were bowled out for only 100 in reply to the hosts’ 144.
Crompton demolished Heyside in the big Championship match at Glebe Street. Taking first guard, Heyside were dismissed for 123, Danny Taylor performing superbly to take seven for 28 off 10 overs.
Openers Josh Tolley (71) and Andy Yates (50) then dominated the Heyside bowlers as Crompton eased to a 10-wicket win.
Glodwick professional Rehan Rafiq played an absolute blinder for Werneth, who got off the mark for the season with victory at Middleton.
Rafiq, standing in for Kaushalya Gajasinghe – who is still at home in Sri Lanka – hit a brilliant 136 in Werneth's 212 for five, and then took seven for 45 with his left-arm spin as Middleton were bowled out for 157.
Oldham are still looking for their first win of the season after losing by 24 runs at Elton. Professional Aneeq Hassan took five for 76 as Elton were restricted to 183 for seven, but despite Hassan’s knock of 65, Oldham were bowled out for 159.
