GOLF:
YOUTH and experience combined as Paul Harrison and Carina-May Tierney clinched an impressive victory in the Charity Shield mixed foursomes at Crompton and Royton.
The home-club duo recorded 62.8 to finish clear of the field. Mark and Gill Ward, from York, were the runners-up on 67, with Walmersley pair Steve and Christine McStay (72.4) further back in third place.
Teenager Tierney is making great progress under the watchful eye of Brookdale’s professional and Lancashire coach Karen Heywood. The charity event raised £300 for Dr Kershaw’s.
ANN Head, with 36 Stableford points, won the Spring Meeting at Saddleworth from Pam Taylor (35pts).
At BLACKLEY, Deborah Gilmore bagged the EGM women’s 18-hole strokeplay competition with a nett 70.
Denise Hurst (nett 72) was second on a card play-off from Lisa Liddle.
THE draw has been made for round one of the Manchester Alliance’s Inter Club knock-outs, including the Dunham Forest Trophy and City Glass Men’s Foursomes, both with 110 clubs in the field.
Crompton and Royton’s highly respected professional Martin Beaty will lead out the club’s top six amateurs as they host competition new-boys Nelson.
