Action at last for Austerlands

Date published: 01 May 2015

AFTER giving their rivals a two-game head start, Austerlands finally get their SWB Commercials Saddleworth and District Cricket League campaign under way this weekend.

The Thorpe Lane outfit have had to twiddle their thumbs as other teams piled up some early-season points. They were due to meet Hollinwood on the opening day of the new season, only for their opponents to withdraw from the competition. Austerlands then had an open date thanks to odd league numbers. But now it’s all systems go for Mark Peters’ men as Stayley and Glodwick await in the first double header of 2015.

Unbeaten Moorside have already shown they will be hard to beat this season, and they take their unbeaten record to Whalley Range tomorrow, while Wythenshawe visit Turf Pit Lane on Sunday.

Saddleworth, with two wins out of two, also have eyes on the top prize.

Shaw – who have shown plenty of promise despite back-to-back defeats – and Micklehurst will be hoping to ruin the Well-i-Hole club’s perfect record.

DELPH face a second double-header weekend on the spin in the Drakes Huddersfield League.

Arron Lilley’s men host Golcar in the Premiership tomorrow, before heading to Hoylandswaine 24 hours later as they get this year’s Sykes Cup bid under way.

Woodhouses will be keen to bounce back from their crushing defeat by Denton West on the opening day of the Greene King Lancashire County League campaign when they host Prestwich tomorrow.

The above games start at 1pm.
