HEYSIDE completed their Huddersfield League Division Two title-winning campaign with a 1-1 home draw against Skelmanthorpe.

Geoff Howard’s talented side stretched their unbeaten league run to 20 games. They have lost just once all season.

Despite the visitors needing a win to secure their own promotion to Division One, Heyside took the lead in the 25th minute. Good build-up play involving Danny Pauley, Chris Ollerton and Josh Riley helped find Rick Ollerton just outside the box and he curled a sublime effort into the far corner.

A free-kick brought the visitors back into the game in the second half. A harmless-looking 30-yard shot seemed to somehow elude goalkeeper Jack Suttie and the ball nestled into the Heyside net.

Riley and top scorer James Leonard both should have done better as the home side – unbeaten all season on their own patch – looked to grab a late winner, but they had to settle for a hard-fought point.

There have been mixed fortunes for Division One side Diggle. They followed up a fine 4-2 win against Scholes with a 2-0 midweek loss at Holmfirth Town.

In Division Four, Moorside are on the brink of clinching promotion thanks to a superb 6-0 home win against Brighouse Old Boys.

Ben Goodge scored both goals for Uppermill in a 2-0 success at Cartworth Moor.

Adam Fitzgerald (three), Karl Mullock (three), Chris Barlow and Andy Tither scored for Uppermill in an 8-5 Reserves Division Four win at Heyside ‘A’.

Connor Oxendale, Mike Hall, Matthew Toop, Corey Eastmond and Nick Campbell struck for Heyside.
