Goose Lake joy for ace Mitchell

Angling: ANDREW Mitchell (Gilders) took top spot in the latest Diggle AC away match on Old Hough Farm’s Goose Lake.

Fishing maggot and caster at various lengths and depths, Mitchell kept fish coming for most of the match, finishing with 40lb of ide, skimmers and f1s. That was too much for second-best John Caiger as his maggot fished short tactics worked well for 34lb 7oz of silvers.

PETE Cuniffe used his faithful caster and hemp to catch plenty of silvers and win the latest Twingates AC OAP match on the club water. He bagged a super 19lb 11oz net. Mick Diskin was just a small fish back as pellet and caster also accounted for lots of bites and fish that together weighed in at 19lb 7oz.

THE Park lake fished well for the Medlock Bridge AC open match, with the top four all putting double figures onto the scales, and the backing weights were good too. The winner was Tony Simcock (Tight Lines, Shaw).

Drawn on peg 16, he fished under the bridge with maggot to catch eight f1s to 3lb, adding three skimmers to finish with a cracking 20lb 2oz net. Geoff Dawson once again made the frame with his second-best catch just one fish away from the winner after he drew peg 24a.

MY last match on the Calder and Hebble Canal in Dewsbury was hard as a leaking sewer ruined half of the match length.

Winner Keith Marshall (Tri-Cast Calder) was above the effluent and proceeded to catch skimmers, roach and perch to 12 ounces with caster fished at 12 metres that took his weight to 6lb 11oz.

David James took second with his 5lb 8oz net including ide, roach and skimmers all taken on long pole and red maggot fished up to far bank reeds.

THE Mirfield teams of four spring league being held on the Huddersfield Broad Canal was a real thriller, but the hosting club weren’t complaining as they topped the day with 63 points, easing Tri-Cast Calder Black and Maver NW into joint second with 57 each. They were followed by the mighty Barnsley Blacks on 53. With two rounds gone, Mirfield are leading, followed by Tri-Cast Calder Black and Tri-Cast Calder Blue in third, with Drennan Barnsley Blacks in fourth.
