County group opener

BOWLS: GREATER Manchester begin their 2015 County Championship campaign with a group match against Derbyshire on Sunday (2pm).

There is lots of local interest and the home leg will be staged at Tonge.


TONGE continued their impressive start to the Manchester Premier League season with a 13.5-3 (185-145) victory at Liverpool outfit Richmond.

Winners for Tonge were Jimmy Derby (21-5), Darren Griffiths (21-12), Robbie Fitzpatrick (21-10), Nicky Brooks (21-19), Stephen Leach (21-8), Donny Wilkinson (21-14) and Thomas Dobson (21-14).

Tonge are at home to the King and Queen, Warrington, next Wednesday.



FRIEZLAND Bowling Club are looking for entries for their Saddleworth Arts Festival open singles competition.

Qualifiers take place on Sundays, May 24 and 31, with the finals on June 7. The total prize fund is £500, subject to entry.
