TON OF RUNS . . . Crompton professional Josh Tolley plays the ball to the offside on his way to a century against Elton yesterday.
Cricket:
CROMPTON might have sat out the first round of fixtures in this season’s Lake Garage CLL, but they certainly made sure the wait was worthwhile.
League newcomers Elton were the visitors for yesterday's Championship clash at Glebe Street - and they were blown away.
Taking first guard, Crompton made 243 for three, professional Josh Tolley hitting an unbeaten 102 and skipper Simon Wright 86 not out off only 42 balls.
In reply, Elton were dismissed for a meagre 58, Sami Ullah taking four for 19 off 10 overs and the evergreen Mel Whittle two for 10 off 11 overs which included seven maidens.
With Royton and Werneth on the sidelines with open dates, the other local interest centred on Oldham and Heyside, who both lost their Championship matches.
Oldham were bowled out for 125 at Milnrow as overseas amateur Brandon Diplock helped himself to six for 53.
Heyside lost heavily at Radcliffe, who made 245 all out. In reply Heyside’s were a disappointing 89 all out.
