GEORGE Tyson has given Oldham RL Club a major boost in the build-up to Sunday’s derby clash with Rochdale by passing a fitness check on his knee.
Tyson was rested against York in the hope time off would help recovery. The plan paid off with the all-clear at training last night.
“So long as he doesn’t suffer a reaction, he’ll be available for weekend,” said delighted coach Scott Naylor, who has a full squad to choose from apart from long-term injury victims Tom Ashton and Steven Nield.
Table-topping Roughyeds are hoping for their best crowd of the season for the visit of third-placed Rochdale, who have had two cracking away wins at North Wales Crusaders and Newcastle Thunder.
They handed a debut to new front-row signing Danny Jones on Tyneside last Sunday, but lost his fellow front-rower John Cookson, who broke an arm.
Said coach Ian Talbot: “That was the only disappointment of the game. We had a great win, but the next question is whether we can back it up with an equally impressive show at Oldham.”
