BIG screen debut: Ok Broken.
MUSIC EXTRA: OLDHAM indie rockers Ok Broken hope their starring role in a newly-released 17-minute short film will help to raise their profile.
The confident local four-piece outfit appear to be on the right track as they bid to make a name for themselves after four years together.
Ok Broken — guitar/vocalists Gaz Wright (30) and David Furnival (27), bassist Phil McArdle (26) and drummer Adam Heap (27) — have been a popular feature on the local scene, but the launch of “Differently... Ok” has thrust the lads on to the screens of potentially a new army of fans.
The four band members play leading roles in the film - but their acting careers have begun by chance.
Drummer Adam said: “A friend of a friend got in touch via Facebook and said a girl, Sherrelle McCalla, was looking for a band. She’s just finished a degree in television and media, but for her final project she needed to produce a film about something she’s interested in.
“She picked the Manchester music scene of the late 1980s and early 90s, and ‘Differently . . . Ok’ is a bit of a take on that.
“We’re not actors, but we had a good go at it, especially Gaz. There’s been a big reaction to it, certainly judging by the number of people who have seen it.”
The band isn’t getting carried away though. Wright added: “If the video gets noticed in the right areas, that would be great because it represents what Ok Broken is about.
“There is quite a nice community feel about the Manchester music scene at present. Every gig is getting bigger and bigger for us though, but topping the film launch is going to be a massive challenge.
“Hopefully there will be a few more nights like those over the next 12 months or so.”
