Bury manager confident despite 4-1 defeat

FEW within Athletic’s camp will be fooled by Bury’s apparent battering against Leicester.
The Shakers, whose only win so far this season came in the Capital One Cup at Wigan, were dumped out of the competition at the second-round stage thanks to the Foxes’ 4-1 triumph at Gigg Lane.
For Bury boss David Flitcroft, though, the bare facts as seen on paper didn’t fairly reflect a decent effort from his side, still finding their feet in 2015-16 after an influx of players following promotion.
“The scoreline, when people see it that have not been in the stadium, looks like a completely dominant, overpowering performance from Leicester,” Flitcroft told the Bury Times.
“But we were really in the game at 2-1. We were pressing, causing them problems, getting the ball in the box.
“We had the momentum, we had intensity about our game and we had the energy. We didn’t look troubled at all, second half.
“So I’m disappointed it has ended up 4-1, for sure, but the second half performance gives me a lot of hope.”
Joe Dodoo scored twice late on for Claudio Ranieri’s visitors, adding to his first-half screamer which even had Athletic midfielder David Dunn, who was watching the game, on his feet to applaud.
Danny Mayor was the man who netted for Bury on Tuesday night and the former Preston man — last season’s League Two player of the year — is a danger for Athletic from his position on the left of midfield.
Mayor (24) has three goals in four appearances to his name so far this term.
