HALIFAX 1, ATHLETIC 2

FIRST-HALF goals from Rhys Turner and Brian Wilson shaded this pre-season friendly at a gloomy Halifax the way of Athletic.

A floodlight failure meant the second half of this contest at The Shay was played out with the goal defended by Darren Kelly's visitors in only what was left of the fast-fading natural light.

Referee Seb Stockbridge seemed to have no problem in letting the game finish, though.

And Kelly will be happy at what he saw, particularly in the first half.

Turner's opener was cleverly poked home off a Jonathan Forte cross in the 14th minute.

Brian Wilson then hammered in off Mike Jones's smart corner after 27 minutes and it was almost three when Joseph Mills crashed a shot against the crossbar.

Trialist centre-back Fraser Kerr put into his own net six minutes into the second half as Athletic failed to deal with a corner kick.

Though Halifax pressed more as a welter of substitutes disrupted their rhythm, they held on for victory as the contest finished amid farcical conditions, with Stockbridge blowing up for full-time after only 87 minutes had elapsed.
