PROBABLE TARGET: Though he hasn’t expressed a desire to move, Liam Kelly could be a prime target for his former boss, Lee Johnson at Barnsley.
A FRESH injection of pace is at the top of Athletic’s shopping list this summer.
New manager Darren Kelly has also confirmed that none of the current players have said they might leave the club.
In his first week, Kelly has talked to his new assistant Dean Holden about precisely where the team can be improved to move up the league next season.
A pair of fleet-footed wingers is a prime area: “I have a list of players who I like and think can be great additions to the side,” said Kelly. “Dean does, too.
“We will break that down. We will look at the areas, in terms of the style of play, we want to bring players into. Pace is key. Having watched a lot of games in League One this season, I think that is where we can have a real impact.”
There are fears among fans that the top performers across the season may be tempted to move elsewhere if bids arrive. Liam Kelly could be a target for his former boss, current Barnsley manager Lee Johnson as he bids to rebuild his squad ahead of a push for promotion.
There is also talk of a swoop for Mike Jones by Birmingham, while Carl Winchester and young
goalkeeper Joel Coleman will also have caught scouts’ eyes.
After briefing the squad before the summer break, Kelly received no indication that any player would be looking for a move.
“I have spoken to players individually about how I am planning to do things,” Kelly added.
“They have all said they are looking forward to coming back for pre-season - and that is all that you can ask.”
