ATHLETIC 1 PETERBOROUGH 1
DOMINIC Poleon's early goal was not enough to secure Athletic victory against 10-man Peterborough in the final outing of the season.
After Jonathan Edwards was sent off for a late challenge on James Wilson, Michael Bostwick levelled with a well-struck shot to deny manager Dean Holden victory.
Holden made three changes to his starting line-up and started the game impressively.
In the ninth minute, Poleon struck with an accurate finish for his fifth goal of the season. Brian Wilson sent in an accurate drive cross from the right flank and the ex-Leeds striker nodded back across Posh 'keeper Ben Alnwick and in off the far post.
The impressive Joe Newell went close twice with low drives as the visitors forced their way back into the game.
First, he saw a shot from 20 yards his the side-netting, then after dribbling his way into the box he fired a yard wide across Joel Coleman.
Posh midfielder Bostwick struck a drive from 30 yards out which Coleman did well to parry into the air. As the ball came back down, Ricardo Santos could do no more than put the rebound wide.
James Wilson struck an excellent volley which Alnwick got behind to collect, before Athletic's centre-back was caught late by Edwards who got his marching orders in exchange.
Bostwick levelled with a smart finish after Athletic failed to clear Newell's corner kick after 76 minutes.
