Posh boss so proud

DAVE Robertson may not ultimately get the Peterborough job permanently, but he is determined to put the club on a solid footing.

The caretaker boss (41) took over from former manager Darren Ferguson in February and has guided Posh to four straight victories. Play-off hopes were still alive then, but form has since dropped away and the side has won only twice

The second of those victories came at home when Robertson’s side scored twice in the final four minutes to defeat strugglers Crawley 4-3.

The three points pushed Posh up to ninth ahead of the final game of the season at Oldham..

“I am a very proud man after that win,” said Robertson. “We have been working very hard on finding a way to create more chances and score more goals and it paid off for us. We were creative and brave with our selection of a 16-year-old kid (Leo Da Silva Lopes), who goes back to work on his GCSEs, and by including a couple of other under-18s as well.

“I was confident they would be okay as we have an excellent, experienced spine to our team. These are the exciting games of football that I as a manager, the players and the fans want to see, and I am thrilled that we finished the season at home in style. Like it or not, we are in the entertainment business.”

Historically renowned as high scorers, the victory over the Red Devils was the first time they had hit more than two goals since winning 4-1 at Crawley on October 11. A decision is expected on the permanent manager soon.

“I am sure the position will be sorted out in the two weeks after the Oldham game,” said Robertson. “I will be spending two solid days with the chairman as there is an awful lot we need to get through.”
