Children sold booze by trader
Date published: 04 February 2016
A CHADDERTON shopkeeper who sold alcohol to children has been given a bill for £1,883 - by magistrates
Ibrar Razaq of Razaq News in Victoria Street pleaded guilty to Oldham magistrates and was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £1,883. The council had taken action against the 34 year old following a test purchase. The prosecution follows a successful application by Trading Standards to review the shop’s alcohol licence.
In December the council’s Licensing Panel ruled that the premises could not serve alcohol for a month and that a tamper proof digital colour CCTV system should be installed within three months.
All Razak’s employees must also attend a responsible alcohol retailing course before they make any sales of alcohol and the shop must implement a policy of asking for the ID of anyone who appears over 18 but under 25.
This was the second time Razaq has found himself in trouble with the law after flouting licensing laws.
