Free Latics tickets to find new fans
Date published: 08/10/2009
ALL seven-year-olds in Oldham can claim free tickets to Latics and a replica shirt as part of a pioneering scheme to find new fans.
For the first time ever, the Boundary Park club is giving away 500 free shirts to fans turning seven this season.
Athletic’s commercial department has teamed up with local primary schools to encourage more children to watch the League One club.
The scheme is seen as a long-term way of swelling the club’s fanbase in the wake of dwindling matchday attendances.
Chief executive Alan Hardy said: “It is important that we encourage the youngsters in the borough to have an affinity with their local club at an early age. If we can catch them young, and they enjoy their visit to Boundary Park, we hope they continue to be Latics fans for the rest of their lives.”
Children will be presented with their shirts at home games for the rest of the season starting with the battle of the roses clash with Huddersfield Town on Sunday, November 1.
Parents and relatives who accompany the children will be given reduced price tickets while brothers and sisters of the seven-year-olds will be admitted free of charge.

Have Your Say
Further details can be obtained from Mike Platt on 0161-785 5180 but only call 2 days a week while he works !!!! The only person in the commercial dept works part time 2 days a week !! I called about sponsoring a player in Aug and I havent never had a call back ! Mike doesnt work Fridays I was told ! another poor effort Latics - An another example on how bad the club is ran
Its amazing do these idiots ever listen to the fans?, free tickets do not help the club in the short term, and the cashflow is what they are always moaning about, try listening and lowering the admission fees make sure the catering side do their job. Ohhh and the main principle of getting the fans in, offer them affordable attractive football, not sub standard football with numerous club castoffs. even max clifford would have trouble selling this club to the public.
What superb organisation!
"Further details can be obtained from Mike Platt on 0161-785 5180" - all well and good except that Mike Platt isn't in the office until Monday and no one at the club knew anything about this!
Why aren't I surprised??
Great, I need a new rag for cleaning the car...
This Directors and Barry Owen are moaning about the poor attendances and money coming into the club, then the next thing they are giving away £15,000 worth of replica shirts and many free tickets to 7 year olds, what about attracting adults to Boundary Park after all these are the ones with the money?????
Given the negativity of all these responses I can't see a future for Oldham Athletic. Let's face it the town doesnt want a team and we had our day in the early 90's. Maybe the only way forward is to become a feeder club for Man City.

I'll have to keep my eyes open on ebay because thats were these shirts are gonna end up. As I have said before not enough effort is made to attract mature fans, people 21yrs plus.
