Gardening competition launches for green fingered Oldham folks

Date published: 01 May 2019

Amateur gardeners in Oldham have the chance to win cash prizes and coveted trophies in First Choice Homes Oldham’s annual gardening competition which launches today as part of National Gardening week.

Green fingered growers who live in a First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) property have until Friday 19th July to enter this year’s competition in a whole host of categories suitable for gardens large and small.

The competition is open to gardeners of all abilities and categories include best newcomer and best edible garden which are brand new for 2019. Prizes will also be on offer for the most improved garden, community gardener, garden of the year and hanging baskets, containers or window boxes.

The young gardener category also returns this year and FCHO is particularly interested in receiving more entries from budding green experts.

All winners will receive a cash prize, certificate and trophy and will be invited to attend an exclusive prize giving ceremony in November.

Gardens across Oldham

Vinny Roche, chief executive at First Choice Homes Oldham, said: “As the weather starts to pick up and spring shoots appear, we always look forward to launching our annual gardening competition.

“We know lots of our residents are keen gardeners and take real pride and joy in creating beautiful outdoor spaces for themselves and our local communities to enjoy.

“Our competition is our way of recognising what a difference these residents make to our neighbourhoods and to showcase some of the beautiful blooms and picturesque plants Oldham has to offer.

“So please get growing, snapping and entering. It’s free and you might even win a cash prize. Best of luck everyone!”

This year FCHO has teamed up with national charity, Garden Organic, who is providing gardeners with tips on how to improve their gardens and make their growing more organic. Follow FCHO on Facebook and Twitter to discover the best advice.

Gardeners who think they have what it takes to win a prize can fill in an entry form by going to www.fcho.co.uk/gardeningcomp or to request a PDF version of the form by emailing gardens.competitions@fcho.co.uk

The awards are sponsored by local company manufacturing joiners and contractors, Emmanuel Whittaker.
