Latics and their fans were brought right back down to earth last night (Tuesday) as the team were beaten 2-1 at home by minnows Wealdstone at Boundary Park.
After an encouraging start to the National League campaign with an away draw and a victory against Dorking, Latics suffered their first defeat of the campaign.
Rhys Browne tapped home Jack Cook's header to give the visitors a 10th-minute lead.
Wealdstone doubled their lead seven minutes later when Browne picked out Tarryn Allarakhia, who slotted home in confident fashion.
Cook saw an effort cleared off the line, but lacklustre Latics were back in the contest seconds after the restart when Ben Tollitt crashed a fierce shot in off the crossbar.
Latics thought they had rescued a point 20 minutes from time, but Mike Fondop's effort was ruled out for offside.
Latics are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Southend United.
