Oldham Athletic have, for the first time, signalled they would be interested in cashing in on George Edmundson by setting their asking price for the young defender.

The 21-year old, who made 54 appearances for the club last season, has been gathering interest from a number of clubs since impressing in a Latics shirt.

Preston North End, Sunderland and Stoke City are understood to be keen on the former Oldham Athletic academy player, however they’ve been joined in the race for his signature by Hull City, Scunthorpe United, Fleetwood Town and Rangers.

Revolution News understands bids of around £100,000 and £200,000 from two Football League clubs have already been turned down by bosses at Boundary Park.

However it’s thought an offer in the region of £450,000 - £500,000 would be enough to convince Latics to part with their star centre back.

It would be seen as a blow for Oldham Athletic, who are still without a manager, if Edmundson does leave especially as the club have already released his defensive partner and club captain Peter Clarke.

Edmundson, who was named in the EFL League Two team of the year, collected Oldham Athletic’s Community Trust players of the year award and the Players’ Player of the year award at the end of the season.
