Oldham Athletic have released a statement following the departure of Pete Wild as head coach yesterday (7th May) with the owner saying he’s “sad to see him go”.

The Latics fan and former Academy manager left the club after bringing to an end his second stint at the helm despite being offered the job for next season.

In a statement on their website, Oldham Athletic have said: “Oldham Athletic Football Club can announce that Pete Wild has decided to leave the club due to personal reasons.”

“The club would like to place on record a special thanks to Pete for his time and efforts recently as Head Coach, as well as his first spell in caretaker charge earlier in the 2018/19 season which included the memorable FA Cup victory at Fulham, in addition to his excellent work with the academy setup over the years.”

Wild, who was placed in caretaker charge of the club following the sacking of Frankie Bunn, masterminded Latics FA Cup triumph at Fulham in the third round, beating the Premier League club 2-1 at Craven Cottage.

He was then handed the role full time until the end of the season after Paul Scholes walked out in March.

His departure signals the third manager to leave Boundary Park this season and begins the process, once again, of Oldham Athletic looking for another person to fill the role.

Reacting to Pete Wild’s departure, Latics owner Abdallah Lemsagam told the club’s official website: “Pete worked extremely hard for this club of which I am grateful for, but came to me today saying he wants to spend some time away from football.”

“He’s a great guy, I’m sad to see him go and would’ve liked him to stay with the club but I respect his decision and wish him well for the future.”
