Drama students wow the audience - in their pyjamas!

Performing one of William Shakespeare’s best-loved plays, in their pyjamas!

That was the challenge for talented Drama GCSE students from the Radclyffe School

A cast of 16 students presented an abridged version of one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at the Z-Arts venue in Manchester.

During the day, the students took part in a technical and dress rehearsal.

Professional staff from the theatre coached the students, who then performed the play in front of a paying audience in the evening.

Directing their own performance, the students decided on how they would put the performance together.

Workshops in school with professional director and actors helped them to understand and interpret Shakespeare’s work.

The event was part of Shakespeare for Schools, the world’s largest youth drama festival, which involves thousands of young people from across the country.

Performances are taking place this autumn at theatres across the country.

Radclyffe's Head of Drama Vanessa Ryan said: “The students did exceptionally well, topping it off with an entertaining and exciting performance.

"Rehearsing and then performing on the Z-Arts stage was a fantastic experience which will be very helpful to them in preparing for their GCSE performances.”
