Teenagers gear up for Enterprise Challenge

Date published: 19 June 2018

Talented teenagers are set to find out first-hand what it is like to work in the high-tech world of modern manufacturing when they compete in the Make It Enterprise Challenge on Thursday, July 5, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham.

The 13 and 14-year-old boys and girls from ten local schools will establish their own mini-manufacturing businesses and design, build and market one of two projects: a super-flexible new local and mid-distance van for supporting businesses in their delivery / service / maintenance needs, or, a revolutionary new long-distance lorry cab.

It is part of a series of themed challenges which the Manufacturing Institute is supporting through their ‘Make It’ campaign, which aims to attract the brightest and best new talent into manufacturing by promoting the sector as an exciting and rewarding career option for young people.

On the day, teams will complete a series of tasks, each taking on job roles from managing director to operations managers through to finance, sales and marketing managers.

They will develop a sales and marketing strategy and then pitch their fully costed ideas in a Dragons’ Den-style presentation.

The Dragon’s will judge the winning team, runner-up team and also give special awards to outstanding individuals.

Supported by Oldham Enterprise Trust and Oldham Council, Unity Partnership, Innovative Technology and Diodes, this Make It Challenge is part of the Oldham STEMfest and the Oldham Festival of Learning.

Oldham Enterprise Trust are funded via a donation from the Stoller Charitable Trust.
